Weather in Semkovo

The relief in Semkovo is mainly mountainous and hilly and the climate is Mediterranean with a huge mountain influence. The average annual temperature is between 7.5° С on the northern slope and 9.5°С on the southern slope of the mountain. The average annual temperature on the highest mountain top (Mussala Peak) is -3°С.

The average temperature for the month of January is from -2° to -10.9°С and the average temperature for the month of July is between 18° and 5°С. The coldest of all winter months is January and the hottest summer month is August. The snow cover is formed at the beginning of November and in January it reaches 60 to 80 centimeters. The leeward steep slopes endanger its visitors with avalanche hazard. The most avalanche-hazardous area is situated on the southern slopes of Rila Mountain at 1800 to 2300 m above sea level, usually at dip of 35° to 40°; sometimes avalanches are formed at dips of 10° to15°. The topmost zone of Rila Mountain is characterized with strong blizzard winds, with speed of 24 m/sec.
